BrightsideBrightside have released two albums, 1998's "Slide & Dive" and 2000's "Snakes & Ladders". Both were written and performed by Ian Runacres and Phil Lukes, with the help of their friends and loved ones. Ian & Phil have also completed and released a Dislocation Dance/Brightside album, "Shinjuku Junction", with the help of original DD members, singer Kathryn Way and drummer Richard Harrison. All three albums are available on Brightside's own "Cake Engine" label and can be purchased by mail order (see order form). Ian and Phil first met while Ian was running BOP records, the Manchester based record label which he started after Dislocation Dance folded in 1986. In a strange twist of fate they met again, when fortune, or the lack of it placed them in the same local authority office a year or so later. They've been friends ever since. They started to "muck about" writing songs in early 1997 with the intention of possibly doing some gigs. Then Phil accidentally bought a digital 8 track, and Brightside were born, coupling Phil's gift for words with Ian's ear for melody. Before you knew, there was an album. Then another. Then another .... .... and they're in the shops now ... in Japan, anyway. |
